My weekly inspiration for today is NYC, but more specifically the mayoral transition occurring which will hopefully induce change.  Last night I went to the Talking Transition tent in downtown Manhattan, and attended the event run by my program director called ” 200 Youth Strong: Because Your Voice Matters” to collect data about issues facing youth in this big city.  There were almost 200 youth there willing to speak their minds on what it is we need in this city, and how our Mayor Elect De Blasio will help get us there.  I can’t wait to start seeing change and all the good it does in this city.

This week for my inspiration, I chose Gandhi. Gandhi was an activist during the revolutionary era in India when the country was splitting with it’s colonial mother country, Great Britain. He used civil disobedience to boycott unfair laws like the salt marches against the salt taxes in India. After the revolution he was at the forefront of not supporting the partition of India and Pakistan. He was a beautiful man, and he did some beautiful things. I hope that one day I can reach the level of compassion he had for every soul that passed before him.

What inspires me the most when doing everyday tasks, or even planning an entire event that can change someone’s life… is the circle of life. The culmination of all your work, from thoughts in your head to a finished project. I can’t even compare the feeling of pure happiness I get when I’m part of this process.

This week for my inspiration, I have chosen to divulge a current obsession I have.. collecting trash and making art from it. I have been doing it for a while now, and it’s become an obsession! Although a fun obsession.

My Inspiration for this week comes from the Buddhist mantra Om Mani Padme Hum. Meaning “The Jewel in the Lotus” meaning finding hidden wisdom in the most unlikely of places. A great example is this picture I took on my way to an open house, of a saying painted very faintly on the sidewalk. Unless you were paying attention you would’ve missed it and it’s hidden wisdom.

Weekly Inspiration

My weekly inspiration this week are the many changing colours of the leaves this coming Autumn. Every year I look forward to the vibrant reds, yellows, and plums that fill the tree lined streets of my commute. They’re a signal of my favourite foods, weather, and colours. Enjoy this Autumn!

Weekly Inspiration

One of the most profound inspirations in my life recently has been religion, specifically Buddhism. It has become a foundation for me to build a stable and beautiful house on. Without these guiding principles I would be a person rooted in hatred and ugliness.

Elephant

For my weekly inspiration, I’ve chosen Elephants. These majestic beings are some of the largest animals on the planet, yet they’re dwarfed by the size of planet Earth. These animals almost exclusively eat plants, roam in herds, and are a Matriarchal society.
